ABOUT
I have been playing the pipes since 1981, and have been full-time since 1990. I spent 15 years with the Victoria Police Pipe Band, from 1990 to 2005, and was fortunate to have been part of the band that won the Grade 1 World Pipe Band Championships
in 1998. With the Victoria Police, I also played on
recordings such as "Live In Ireland", "Live In The Rockies"
and "The
Masterblaster Concert", in Motherwell, Scotland. ![]() I was tutored by John McIver, to whom I am greatly indebted, and also received invaluable assistance from P/M Nat Russell, Heather Daws, Geoff Ross and Barry Stewart. I'm also grateful to Bill Travaille and Steve Harris, who helped greatly with getting me started as a reed-maker in 2004. In 1993, I received the Advanced Piping Certificate (Australian Pipe Band Association) and the Adjudicators Certificate (Australian Pipe Band Association), and in 2012, was the recipient of the Sir Rupert Hamer Award for services to Pipe Bands. I have also played in concerts with André Rieu and The Seekers and played as a soloist with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Victorian State Orchestra, Eric Burden and Marion Martin. In 2018, I participated in the 2018 Basel Military Tattoo in Switzerland, with the Rats Of Tobruk Memorial Pipes & Drums. Since leaving the Victoria Police Pipe Band in 2005, I have focused on tutoring lower grade bands, with whom I have had considerable success, reed-making and becoming a full-time wedding and funeral piper. ![]() |
